Lake Placid Dam May Project Summary

Recent Activities:

The second lift of reinforced foundation concrete in Bay 1 was completed. Dowels and rebar have been installed in Bay 1 and the placement and curing of concrete under the slab foundation in Bay 1 has occurred. Existing structural concrete demolition has been completed. Reconstruction of the North Abutment and the Center Pier (between Bay 1 and Bay 2) has started. Dam armoring excavation and concrete placement is ongoing.

Change Orders:

  1. Lake Placid Survey Alignment Adjustment and clay shale differences (Noted as “1. Pending” in Change Orders (pending) in April 2024 Project Summary) – Approved by Black and Veatch and GBRA, signed by Sundt. Increased Contract by $4,532.85 and added seven (7) days.
  2. Lake Placid Cofferdam Waler Conflict (Noted as “2. Pending” in Change Orders (pending) in April 2024 Project Summary) – pending signatures from all parties. Increased Contract by $281,930.78 and added thirty-four (34) days.
  3. Lake Placid Flood Event Change Order (Noted as “3. Pending” in Change Orders (pending) in April 2024 Project Summary) – Approved by Black and Veatch and GBRA, signed by Sundt. Increased Contract by $32,998.58 and added seven (7) days.
  4. Pending Change Order: Sundt has been requested to provide pricing to add a gantry crane to the Contract. The gantry crane will allow Lake Placid to set and remove stop logs as needed to maintain the new gates. Sundt is waiting for pricing from their manufacturer.
  5. Pending Change Order: Core and grout underneath existing spillway slab. Sundt is working on pricing this change order.

Schedule:

  1. Sundt is continuing to evaluate ways to regain time lost from dealing with unanticipated debris discovered upstream of Bay 1.

Other Items of Interest:

  1. Steel Fab gate manufacturing remains on schedule. Steel Fab is the company building the new steel gates. (See pictures included with this report, below.)
  2. The steel gates are scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.
  3. The Hydraulic Pressure Unit (HPU) has been factory tested and accepted.

Upcoming:

In the next several weeks, we expect (1) installation of dowels, rebar, hinge anchors, and stop log block outs, and formwork for the Bay 1 slab foundation; and (2) continued dam armoring earthwork and concrete placements.
