Lake Placid Dam – September Project Summary

September 14, 2023

Date of Report: September 14, 2023

Recent Activities:

Piles for bays 1, 2 and 3 on the work bridge have been completed. Sleeves and cross bracing for bays 1, 2 and 3 on the work bridge have been completed. Plates and cap beams have been welded in place for bays 1, 2 and 3 on the work bridge. Crane and truck beams for spans 1 and 2 have been set in place. Crane mats and handrails have been installed for spans 1 and 2.

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, the Contractor (Sundt) noticed one of the piles in bay 2 had sunk 12" and shifted downstream 9". Sundt immediately pulled the crane back off the work bridge. Since that date, Sundt has removed all the wooden handrails and decking off of bays 2 and 3, pulled the pile that had shifted, and replaced it with a longer pile. As of September 14, 2023, Sundt was completing re-installation of cross bracing and pile caps. [Note: The work bridge design is the sole responsibility of the Contractor, so no monetary change order is expected.]

Upcoming:

In the next three weeks, we expect (1) continued installation of the work bridge; (2) commencement of dam armoring excavation; and (3) begin construction of coffer dam in bay 1.
